Yellowhead Gas Co-op was formed out of necessity. At a time when large utility providers focused on cities and high-density regions, rural landowners and farmers in this area of western Alberta faced limited, and often unaffordable access to natural gas.
Rather than wait for outside help, a group of determined community members came together to create something better: a locally operated, member-owned utility that would bring safe, affordable natural gas to the people who needed it most.
That grassroots effort became Yellowhead Gas Co-Op.
Yellowhead Gas Co-op has expanded to serve over 3,000+ members across our franchise area including: Jasper Gates, Carrot Creek, Hinton, Edson and Woodlands County. We’ve installed and maintained thousands of kilometers of natural gas lines and continuously reinvest in our infrastructure to meet growing demand.
What started as a small group of volunteers has become a well-organized co-operative with experienced employees, a dedicated board of directors, and strong relationships with local contractors and municipalities.
Throughout it all, we’ve kept one thing constant: our commitment to keeping rural energy affordable, accessible, and locally managed.
Today, we continue to operate under the same principles that built the co-op: local ownership, transparent leadership, and member-first service. Every decision we make is grounded in long-term stewardship, not short-term gain.
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) allows members to vote and participate in the future of the co-op. Our board is made up of members who live across Yellowhead County. Our infrastructure is here because the community built it together.
The story of Yellowhead Gas Co-op is still being written: by our members, our board, and the communities we serve. If you’d like to understand more about who’s leading the co-op, where our services reach, or how to get in touch, we’ve made it easy to explore.
Our work is rooted in transparency, and we welcome you to learn more!
