Natural Gas Energy

A Trusted Energy Source for Rural Alberta

Natural gas plays a key role in heating rural properties, especially in areas where other energy sources are less accessible or more expensive. It provides consistent, efficient heating for homes, shops, barns, and equipment, making it a reliable solution for farms, acreages, and rural businesses.

At Yellowhead Gas Co-op, we help ensure that this vital resource remains available, affordable, and safely delivered to our members.

Natural gas is more than a fuel source: it’s a foundation for rural life.

Why Choose Natural Gas?

Natural gas continues to be the energy choice of rural Albertans for good reason. It offers a combination of reliability, cost-efficiency, and simplicity that fits the needs of farms, acreages, and homes across Yellowhead County.

In areas where electricity or propane can be expensive or inconsistent, natural gas provides year-round peace of mind. With underground delivery and strong infrastructure in place, it’s a system members can count on. Best of all, it’s managed by your local co-op, with service and support just a phone call away.

Why Our Members Choose Natural Gas

Affordable

Natural gas has historically offered stable, competitive rates; making it a cost-effective choice for heating and everyday energy needs, because YellowheadGas Co-op is member-owned and rates are kept as low as possible.

Reliable

Delivered through underground lines, natural gas isn’t affected by high winds, downed power lines, or fluctuating supply chains. That makes it ideal for Alberta’s unpredictable weather and rural conditions.

Efficient

Natural gas produces instant, high heat, making it highly effective for heating large homes, shops, barns, and water systems. Its quick delivery and strong performance reduce energy waste and heating delays.

Clean-Burning

While still a fossil fuel, natural gas produces lower emissions than coal, oil, or wood. It’s a practical, lower-carbon option for rural members who want to reduce their environmental footprint.

Widely Available

If you’re located in Yellowhead Gas Co-op’s franchise area, chances are natural gas is already accessible to your property. With infrastructure already in place, the process of connecting is straightforward, and support is always close by.

Delivered Locally and Managed Responsibly

When you receive natural gas service from Yellowhead Gas Co-op, you’re not just connected to an energy source, you’re connected to a locally managed system built to serve your community.

When you need help, there’s no navigating a distant call centre. You’re speaking directly to someone who knows your area and takes your needs seriously.

What Is Natural Gas Energy?

Natural gas is a clean-burning fossil fuel that provides energy for heating, cooking, water systems, and more. It’s delivered directly to your home or property through underground pipelines, so there’s no need for above-ground tanks or fuel deliveries.

Used by homes, farms, and businesses across Alberta, natural gas is one of the most efficient and reliable ways to keep your property heated and comfortable throughout the year.

At Yellowhead Gas Co-op, we ensure that natural gas service is safe, accessible, and tailored to the unique needs of rural members.

How Does the Process Work?

The process is simple, and it’s safe:

Delivery

Natural gas is transported to your property through a secure underground pipeline system managed by Yellowhead Gas Co-op.

Metering

A gas meter on your property measures how many Gigajoules (GJ’s) you use.

Appliances and Heating

Natural gas powers furnaces, hot water tanks, stoves, fireplaces, shop heaters, and more.

Billing

You receive a monthly billing statement based on your actual usage, with rates determined by system-wide member needs.

Natural gas is always available when you need it: no tank refills, no scheduling deliveries, and no interruptions due to weather.

Is Natural Gas Safe?

Yes! Natural gas is one of the safest and most carefully regulated energy systems in Alberta. At Yellowhead Gas Co-op, our licensed gas utility operators conduct routine maintenance and inspections to ensure all connections, meters, and underground lines meet or exceed safety standards.

Plus, we’re local, so if something does need attention, we can respond quickly and efficiently.
