Here’s what to do:
Emergencies don’t happen often, but when they do, a calm, immediate response makes all the difference.
Gas emergencies aren’t always obvious, but knowing the warning signs can help you act quickly. If you notice any of the following, treat it as an emergency and contact us right away:
A strong, sulfur-like or “rotten egg” smell indoors or outdoors is the most common sign of a leak.
Unusual sounds coming from pipes, gas meters, or underground could indicate escaping gas under pressure.
Broken and exposed gas lines, especially during construction or digging, most be reported immediately.
Flames or smoke near meters, pipelines or gas-powered appliances are extremely dangerous and require emergency response.
If your CO alarm goes off, leave immediately and seek medical attention if you feel dizzy, nauseous, or light-headed.
Striking or uncovering a gas line while digging, even without obvious damage, poses a serious safety risk and must be reported.
A sudden loss of heat or hot water may signal a system issue or safety shutdown that needs investigation.
Any signs of interference with your gas meter or line should be reported for inspection and safety assurance.
If you’re ever unsure whether something counts as an emergency, call us. It’s better to check and be safe.
