Construction Services

Planning a New Build or Expansion? Let’s Work Together!

If you’re building on a rural property in the Yellowhead Gas Co-op franchise area and require gas service, our team is here to help coordinate your connection safely and efficiently.

From initial planning to on-site construction, Yellowhead works alongside property owners, contractors and developers to make sure all installations meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Whether it’s a new home, a farm shop, or a subdivision, we’ll help you understand the steps, provide key contacts, and explain your responsibilities.

Initial Service Review

We’ll assess whether your property falls within our franchise area and determine how close your build is to existing infrastructure. If natural gas is available, we’ll help you understand the next steps for connection.

Primary Line Coordination

Yellowhead is responsible for the installation of the primary gas line, from our main system to your structure. This includes trenching on public land and ensuring the line is installed to code.

All work is carried out in alignment within the Rural Utilities Guidelines and internal Yellowhead Gas safety protocols. We’ll also work with Utility Safety Partners to ensure proper line locates are conducted in advance.

Before connection is finalized, a Yellowhead field technician may conduct a site visit to ensure trenching, meter placement and any member-contracted work aligns with safety requirements and installation standards.

Throughout the project, we’re available to answer questions and connect you with trusted local contractors when needed for parts of the project that fall outside our scope.

What Members Are Responsible For

While Yellowhead Gas Co-op handles core infrastructure and primary line installation, there are important parts of the construction process that remain the responsibility of the property owner, contractor, or developer.

By understanding your role early, you can help avoid delays and ensure everything is installed correctly.

Meter Hang / Service Completion Notification

When your new gas service is ready for a meter installation, a successful pressure test must be completed to ensure everything is safe and secure. If you’d prefer not to schedule a witnessed air test with a Yellowhead Gas Co-Op technician, your certified pipe-fitter can perform the test and complete the necessary verification.

Simply fill out the designated form and return it to our office, we’ll take care of the rest!

Here’s what our members will be expected to manage:

Initiating The Service Request

Reach out to Yellowhead before construction begins, ideally during your planning phase. This allows our team to assess your property and begin the coordination process early.

Providing a Site Plan

You’ll need to supply a clear layout of your property showing the proposed locations of the home and any existing infrastructure and services.

Completing Secondary Trenching

Trenching from the primary meter to secondary location is the responsibility of the landowner.

Ensuring Proper Meter Housing

It’s up to the member to ensure the meter is accessible and protected.

Start Your Service with A Phone Call

Every successful service connection starts with a conversation. Before you begin digging, pouring foundations or finalizing site layouts, get in touch with our team. We’ll help you determine if your property qualifies for service, walk you through the steps required, and coordinate timing that works for your build schedule.

The earlier you reach out, the smoother the process will be, and we’re happy to answer any questions along the way!
