If you’re building on a rural property in the Yellowhead Gas Co-op franchise area and require gas service, our team is here to help!

Yellowhead Gas Co-op does not perform manual meter reads. Instead, we use advanced ERT (Encoder Receiver Transmitter) technology installed on each meter. A third-party company conducts monthly aerial flyovers of our service area to gather meter data digitally and securely.

Because this system captures usage over a 40-day rolling period, we do not require a manual meter read when a member moves out. This helps streamline the billing process while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and convenience for all members.

Meter Support & Site Visits

While manual meter reads are not required due to our use of ERT technology, Yellowhead Gas Co-op does offer site visit support for members who need help relocating or inspecting their meter.

Our team of trained gas utility operators understands both the technical standards of natural gas systems and the unique layout of rural properties. If you’re dealing with changes on your property, equipment concerns, or access challenges, we’re here to help.

Meter Access Coordination

Locked gates, remote meter placements, or animals on your property? We’ll coordinate with you or your tenant to ensure safe, secure, and respectful access.

Experiencing irregular readings or drops in pressure? We can test at the meter level, check connections, and recommend next steps if contractor support is needed.

Planning a renovation or adding a structure? We’ll help assess the best location for your meter, inspect the new site, and coordinate relocation as part of a primary service upgrade.

Important: If you’re applying for a new primary service, a meter hang is part of the installation process and does not require a separate request.

While most routine meter support services are included as part of membership, specialized/repeated visits, as well as damage caused to the infrastructure may be subject to additional charges. We’ll always confirm this with you ahead of time.
